Treatment Strategies for ADHD

Treatment Approaches for ADHD Across Transitional Age Groups - Middle School to College- Recent media coverage, social Internet blogs, and other influential sources have highlighted the risks of misuse, abuse and diversion associated with prescribed stimulants for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD). Reports of middle school, high school and college students feigning symptoms of ADHD to obtain stimulants for cognitive enhancement are of growing concern to pediatricians, family practice and internal medicine physicians, and other practitioners treating patients in the transitional student age group.
This multimedia video program includes case study simulations of patients with ADHD/ADD in candid discussions with their psychiatrists. The case studies are augmented with evidence-based expert discussions to highlight effective interviewing techniques, coaching, assessment, and treatment decision-making in ADHD/ADD. The experts tackle difficult subjects and provide clear guidance for physicians and practitioners responsible to make treatment decisions. Timely issues pertaining to drug misuse, abuse and diversion are addressed, including bias and fear that may impede physicians and physicians-in-training from effectively managing adolescent and young adult patients with ADHD.
Examine the influence of ADHD medication diversion, misuse and abuse in treatment bias and treatment selection for adolescents and young adults.
Differentiate the mechanism of action, efficacy, safety and other outcomes of ADHD therapies and their utility in the treatment of armamentarium.
