Oncology CEUs- Neuroendocrine Tumors


Understanding and Managing Neuroendocrine Tumors: Intervention Strategies for the Oncology Nurse- This activity will examine carcinoid tumor classification, including an overview of hereditary syndromes, diagnostic work-up, and staging. Current standard of care and novel therapies for NETs will be reviewed, as well as pertinent clinical trial data and updated NCCN guidelines and how the emerging data could effect treatments. Challenging case studies involving the treatment and care of a patient with intermediate-grade NET of the small bowel and newly diagnosed metastatic pancreatic NET will explain patient history, diagnosis, staging, treatment regimen, and management of common treatment-related side effects.
Identify disease pathophysiology and new tumor subtypes influencing development of disease. Examine the methods of diagnostic work-up for patients with NET. Review the currently accepted treatment approaches for patients with NET. Evaluate emerging data on targeted agents for the treatment of patients with this disease. Apply recognized national guidelines and scientific evidence for optimal management of treatment-related side effects.
