Lung Cancer- Free Pharmacology Hours

Practical Challenges in Maintenance Therapy for Non-Smal Cell Lung Cancer: A Nursing Perspective- Late-phase trials of agents targeting novel signaling pathways have produced positive clinical outcomes not seen in melanoma research for decades. Many oncology nurses who care for patients with melanoma have already administered these new agents and need education regarding their efficacy, unique response patterns and toxicity profiles, how they may be integrated into current treatment regimens, and how to inform patients about their benefits and risks. This activity will include discussions on current and emerging treatment options for advanced melanoma, and management of treatment-related side effects. Three case studies will be included highlighting optimal treatment and side-effect management strategies for patients with advanced melanoma. Identify histological and molecular features involved in optimal treatment selection.
Distinguish between continuation and switch maintenance therapy. Integrate maintenance therapy into clinical practice to deliver optimal patient care. Anticipate maintenance-therapy related side effects and preventative care strategies. Identify the current and potential genotype testing for lung cancer patients, and the implications for personalized treatment. Develop and integrate strategies to optimize management of treatment-related side effects.
